Guests Watching Football At Stand Up NY

The new NFL rules continue to send shock waves, this time hitting up Stand Up NY for a large fine. According to sources close to the club, their Football Sundays events are too big of a hit, leaving long term side effects on a number of receiving parties. Some have reported spacing out during the following week, day dreaming of all the fun, food and football they were able to enjoy at one location. Others have reported rambling on to all their friends about the great time they had watching the game at Stand Up NY.

Many people are furious over the leagues decision. “No one is making the people come watch football on our huge LED screens, drink our cheap bear and eat our delicious wings-” says a bartender wishing to remain anonymous. One guest who was hit particularly hard put it bluntly, “I know the risks before I go in, the club did nothing wrong.”

Stand Up NY has not decided if it will appeal the ruling, but did release this statement: “We have been taught to supply our guest with the best time possible, and have no intention of changing the way we play the game. We will continue to do this every Sunday for the entire season, up until the last minute of the last game. No exceptions. No excuses. It is unfortunate that some guests of Stand Up NY are reporting long term effects, but we will continue to play the game the only way we know how.”

Replays show a couple people being hit particularly hard, especially when they received the free round of shots that comes standard to every guest upon arrival. In slow motion, you can really see their faces light up, some immediately reaching for their cell phones to tell everyone they know to come.

Jewish Singles Come To Mingle

The Jewish Mothers International League Federation (JMILF) can sleep a little easier tonight knowing that Stand Up NY has its back. This past Tuesday we hosted a very successful Jewish mixer called ‘Date My Jewish Friend’. It was going to be called ‘Oh My God What Has My Life Come To’ but that title was already being used by an event for married Jewish women in there 20’s with four or more kids (sponsored by the local mikvah).

The night began with some innocent mingling at our elegant new bar that managed to seduce more men then the attending females. From there, the contestants were herded into our beautiful main room for an opening ceremony, likely the only ceremony they will see for a long time.

Then the speed dating began, and there are rumors that two people of the opposite sex actually exchanged numbers. These reports are unconfirmed, but, if true, would be a historic moment in both those peoples lives. Here at Stand Up NY we look forward to helping lonely people in any way we can. Except finding a date. Because some people are just hopeless.

Susie Essman Visits Stand Up NY

If I can say one thing about the men (and at least one woman) here at Stand Up NY it’s that we are all definitely Ess-men. Can’t help it. It’s just what we are attracted to. Well, this past Tuesday the comedy gods blessed us with the presence of Susie Essman and we just couldn’t curb our enthusiasm. Filming a promo add for the Christopher Reeves foundation, Susie stopped by for an hour or so to shoot on our world famous and recently renovated stage.

“Fuck, this place is looking fucking amazing! This has got to be the best fucking comedy club in the city,” Essman remarked upon entering. And even though we all fucking knew this already, it was still nice to hear it from the same mouth that refers to Larry David as a “four eyed fuck.” (‘Fuck’ count: 5)

While filming, she slipped right into her usual Susie Greene character from Curb, peppering the video with her hilariously obscene and vulgar language. Obviously, we didn’t expect anything less. Off camera, she was rather pleasant and kind, commenting on my own good looks and general pleasant demeanor. I later brought her our new VIP section, where we fuckin’ fucked. Ah, just another day at the office….

Vincent Piazza, one of the stars of the upcoming HBO series Boardwalk Empire stopped in tonight to watch his friend Goumba Johnny host the show. This Martin Scorsese directed show will be huge – I’m looking forward to the premiere in September.

Caroline Rhea at Stand Up NY Tuesday night

Tuesday night is shaping up to be a busy night at the club. We are excited that Caroline Rhea will be hosting the show all night. I have never seen her stand-up but I will be in the audience like everyone else tomorrow. Caroline is a fellow West Sider and we are hoping that she will make us her ‘home club’. Also performing Tuesday will be Goumba Johnny - he’s one of those people that many have heard his name but few know where he is from. Oh, and Elon Gold will be here too. Chris Rock, Letterman and more…

It was an eventful weekend at Stand Up NY. Chris Rock stopped in on Friday afternoon to check out our new space designed by Steve Lewis. He was really into it and said he would come back soon. Comics of his caliber do not like it when clubs promote them in advance – so I will have to write about it after he comes back.

Also on Friday, comic Corey Kahaney jumped on stage and surprised the 2 dozen or so happy-hour open mic’ers so she can practice for her Letterman appearance coming up in a few weeks. I stopped in the club on Saturday night to find Bill Burr at the bar – he did two unscheduled shows at the club so he can practice for his Letterman appearance this coming Monday night.
